Purpose:

To support the development of an 88 MW solar farm through comprehensive civil works, enhancing energy production and distribution capabilities.

​

Scope of Work:

Exacto Projects was responsible for completing various civil packages, including substation construction, trenching and backfill for cable distribution, building operations and maintenance facilities, and implementing stormwater mitigation measures.​

Project Overview:

The Mica Creek Solar Farm, spanning 198 hectares in Mount Isa, required extensive civil works to support its 88 MW capacity. Exact Projects undertook the substation construction and 21 km of trenching and backfill for the AC/MV cable distribution to 10 PV blocks. Additionally, the project included constructing an Operations & Maintenance Building, creating 15 low water level crossings for internal roads, and carrying out stormwater mitigation works to ensure the site's durability and functionality.

  • Substation Construction: Building a robust sub-station to facilitate the efficient transmission of generated solar power.

  • Trenching and Backfill: Executing 21 km of trenching and backfill for the AC/MV cable distribution, ensuring connectivity across 10 PV blocks over 198 hectares.

  • Operations & Maintenance Building: Constructing a facility to house operational and maintenance activities, ensuring smooth functioning of the solar farm.

  • Low Water Level Crossings: Developing 15 low water level crossings to improve internal road access and durability.

  • Stormwater Mitigation: Implementing measures to manage stormwater and prevent erosion, safeguarding the infrastructure.

 

Outcome:

The successful completion of the civil packages for the Mica Creek Solar Farm by Exacto Projects in 2022-2023 contributed significantly to the project's overall success. The detailed civil works, including the construction of the sub-station, cable distribution network, and essential infrastructure, ensured the solar farm's efficient operation and longevity. This project highlighted Exacto Projects' ability to deliver comprehensive civil engineering solutions for large-scale renewable energy projects.
